Moon Phases & Melbourne

Our spa menu rotates with the moon. Guests either find this enchanting or suspicious — and after three years, the results have made up my mind about which camp I'm in.

I did not grow up believing in lunar calendars. I grew up in bathhouses — Istanbul, then Budapest — where the calendar that mattered was the season, and the only phase anyone discussed was the plunge pool's temperature.

Why We Tried It

A senior therapist asked, reasonably, why our treatment menu ignored the rhythm guests' bodies were already keeping. Sleep quality, energy, skin behaviour — anyone who's worked hands-on for twenty years notices the monthly tide whether or not they credit the cause.

So we split the menu: release work — deep tissue, detoxifying wraps, drainage — in the waning weeks; restorative work — warming rituals, nourishment, sleep-focused treatments — as the moon waxes. Full-moon evenings get a bathing hour on the sky deck. Nothing mystical was promised. Something interesting happened anyway.

What Changed

  • Rebooking rates rose 30% — guests began planning stays around ritual windows.
  • Therapists reported better results in release work during waning weeks — or believed they did, which produces the same outcome.
  • The menu got shorter and better; rotation forced every treatment to justify its slot.
Whether the moon does the work or the ritual does, the guest leaves changed — I'm a scientist, so I accept both explanations.

How to Use It

You don't need to believe anything. Book the thermal circuit, look at the sky from the pool, and notice that the week you happen to arrive always seems to be the right phase. That, as much as anything, is the design.
